We land in Greece for this week's photo blog Wednesday!

The star of the show this week is another new contributor to the site, Angie H.  Let's give her a warm Hashtag 59 welcome...virtual fist bumps and high fives included to her!

Angie H's family grew up in Greece and it's a country she has often visited to celebrate special family moments, bringing friends from the states over, and so much more!
The Hashtag 59 crew has a standing invite to come over there with her and we can't wait to take her up on that offer!

For a small tour on the north eastern coast of Greece, alongside the Aegean Sea, I start this journey to the suburbs of Thessaloniki, Greece (Second largest city in Greece), the town of Giannista (which is my hometown 30 mins West of Thessalonki), Pella (the birthplace and ruins of Alexander the Great...which is just about 7mins further than our house), and the fabulous beaches along the coast of Thessaloniki in the region that is called Halkidiki.

The main pedestrian street or to say in greek, (pes-oh-thromo) the road of people, is off limits to cars and offers a day or night stroll by many shops, cafes, restaurants and lounges for people pf all ages. It is the heart of the entertainment area here.

Next for this group I show you the patio at our house. It's very common all over Greece to see patios and shaded areas that are made grown from Grapevines or other flowering vines. We use these grapes to make our very own "Tsipouro"  in Greek, or many may know it as Grappa or just Moonshine.   This vine was planted in 1950 when my Grandparents finished building the house we currently still live in today.

Taking the main road towards Thessaloniki just a few minutes outside of Giannista, we get to Pella. Here the tiny traditional village still survives with a few resident single standing homes and a local market for small items.

My absolute favorite coffee ever is a Greek Frappé.  Made from NesCafe, blended and poured over ice with a frothy top to it.  I order "sketo" or plain without milk. I love the flavor and high octane energy blast this one gives for sure!

Have you ever been to Greece?  What's your favorite spot?
We can't wait for more posts from Angie H as she tours the globe but for now we hope you enjoyed her intimate and hyper localized view of the country she was born in.  Part 2 of more hyper local Greek travels from Angie H will be unveiled later this month!
