5 Adventures in Maine's Acadia National Park

The National Parks of America aren't just in Utah, Alaska, and California; though it seems to be the ones people talk about the most. The state of Maine is home to the lovely town of Bar Harbor and the splendid Acadia National Park. Located in the northeast corner of the country this is one of my favorite parks in the system and there's something to do for everyone! In this article I’ll share 5 Adventure in Maine’s Acadia National Park.

In this article I will share 5 Adventures I recommend when spending a few days in or near Acadia National Park.

But first...a few fun facts and tips!

1. Cadillac Mountain is home to the first sunrise in America each day.
2. You'll want to eat a lobster at a roadside shack on the drive in to Acadia if you eat meat/seafood. The lobster is just a little different up there. Like enchiladas in New Mexico, BBQ in Texas, and Ice Cream in LeMars Iowa.
3. Plan at least 4 days/3 nights to explore Acadia if you can and feel that you did more than the scenic drive.
4. Acadia is located on Mount Desert Island and John Rockefeller Jr not only donated 10,000 acres to the National Park Service but he spent $3.5 million dollars (in the early 1900's that was a lot of coin) to install 57 miles of carriage roads within the park that automobiles are prohibited on but carriages, feet, and bikes are welcomed.

Now onto the list!

Acadia National Park Maine Must Do’s!

5. Hit the scenic drive and all the side hikes. There were jaw dropping views and short jaunts along the way, you can fill your day with 15,000 steps, one road, and true awe as you journey through the park.

4. Head up on the Bubbles Rock Trail! It's a great day hike with a once in a lifetime photo op at the top. The rock is sturdy I promise! Yeah Jill G is at the top of the Bubbles! It's actually way more stable than it looks but it's still quite the sight and a funny photo op. Be careful which way you head down, my friend Anne W went on this hike last fall and there was some serious bouldering on her trek down. We didn't encounter this. Her husband loved it, Anne not so much!

3. Take a meditative stroll around Jordan Pond and then settle in for afternoon tea and popovers at one of these lovely pond side tables. Your worries will wash away during a quiet few hours spent here.

2. Go for a trail run or bicycle ride on the hundreds of miles of Carriage Roads and get lost (not literally!) in the beautiful woods of Acadia National Park.

1. Climb Cadillac Mountain and be the first to see the sunrise in America! Or if you forget your headlamp you can drive to the top and watch it (there's a road, visitor center, and parking lot.) But you know the Hashtag 59er's recommend summiting the peak by foot not by car if you are able to do so!)

Acadia National Park is a wonderful place and there is plenty more to do and see. For first time visitors this will get you started and excited for your trip to Acadia in Maine!
