Taking out the Trash (Literally!)

Taking out the trash in the Scioto River

Since we started “taking out the trash” in 2017 our trash cleanup events have pulled over 43,800 pounds of litter out of public lands in Ohio and Michigan!

we are excited to roll out the next phases of our trash cleanup programs and want to let you know how you can get involved!

What is the goal of our trash cleanups?

  1. To clean up the lands and waterways that we call home. The preservation of our ecosystems are vital to the existence and future of the plants and animals that call it home. It’s also important to the future existence of the human race. Litter that gets dumped into a street eventually makes its way to rivers and then to the ocean. Items such as the destruction of coral reefs will eventually take us all down if we don’t take action. Keeping our planet clean is one component of an action plan to combat this.

  2. Awareness. Let people see and know how important it is to get involved in taking care of the planet and the animals around us. It’s good to do work out in nature that involves a little manual labor while having a fun time in the outdoors. Seeing it firsthand and picking up trash is a great way to become more involved in items like the preservation of the forests and the ocean, composting your food, becoming a more conscious consumer, and biking a bit more instead of driving.

  3. Fun. If we don’t have fun we aren’t doing it right in our eyes. The problem is real and an emergency but it doesn’t mean we can’t smile and enjoy ourselves while we do it!

We loved and were inspired by the movie Chasing Coral, watch it below!

A couple of FAQ’s for our Trash Cleanups!

Where are your trash cleanups located?

We currently operate them out of Central Ohio and West Michigan. However we would love to expand to more areas of the world and to your neck of the woods!
You can stay up to date with our event schedule on our official Trash Cleanup Page HERE!

I want you to expand to an area I am in, how would you do it?
We need a sponsor (like Pacifico Preserves or the Ohio EPA when they have sponsored our cleanups) that is willing to pay for the event leaders time and the backend hours it takes to bring these to the public.
OR
We need a well connected and focused volunteer that has resources in the area that believes they can put in the sweat equity to begin to build them out!

If this is YOU well send us a note HERE and let’s chat more.

Taking out the trash in Central Ohio

We know this is only one piece of taking care of the planet. But it’s a fun and easy way to get involved. We are dedicated to outdoor recreation for all people (not just the privileged of the world) and by putting a focus on the planet over profit.

This life is a gift; where we go and where we are before this is all depends on what you believe in.

But I know for myself that living in presence and awe on this planet for however long I am meant to do it is an honor. To get to breathe in as a collaborator with the planet instead of using up what it offers me as though it’s a free vending machine won’t allow me to do what I am meant to do here, what I did before I entered this planet, and what I am meant to do next.

The care and love we put out and vibrate with here I believe will be carried with us.

What’s next???

Well we have a lot of trash cleanups planned, so come out and volunteer with us!

Don’t live in the area? Do a DIY Cleanup or reach out to see how we can organize some in your area!

Help us expand into composting classes, outdoor cooking events, and more by being a sponsor if you are able or setting us up with one. We would be grateful to have the chance to bring and more to the communities and the planet than just being litter pickers!

Thanks for reading and thanks for sharing.
