Roadside Attraction: The Big Walker Lookout in Virginia

Big Walker Lookout in Virginia

The Big Walker Lookout is worth the climb! Long road trip drive through Virginia?
Then Jason M has got you taken care of with another Roadside Attraction that will get the blood pumping!

For most of us heading south for a vacation or the return journey north on the way home is a trek with a purpose.  Let’s get to the destination without hesitation and power through!

If you do this, you are missing out on some fantastic opportunities to stretch your legs, clear your head, and enjoy some rejuvenating time outside.

Big Walker Lookout, outside of Wytheville, Virginia is one of those locations.  Yes, it requires a small detour off either I-77 or I-81, but it’s worth your valuable time.

According to their website, the Lookout Tower was built in 1947 and the hundred-foot climb gives you a stunning view of up to five states depending on the weather.   “Showcases the most spectacular panoramic vistas in the East!  Looking north, you’ll see the patchwork quilt of the farmlands.  Looking south, you’ll see the untouched wilderness of Jefferson National Forest.”  The climb is not for the faint of heart and I do recommend you have the proper footwear.  Imagine a place like this in the autumn – a complete color explosion!

In addition, the location had significance during the Civil War, and should provide your history buff a nice respite during your travel.  A totally different reason to stop!

This is a Roadside Attraction you don’t want to miss.
Take the time and enjoy your stop at the Big Walker Lookout!
