Martin Luther King Jr, Memorial in Washington DC

Today we celebrate and honor the legacy of Dr Martin Luther King Jr.  I wanted to do a tribute of sorts to Dr King on the Hashtag59 site but wasn't quite sure how to do it. Dr King has made a tremendous impact on my life, millions of others in this world, and his life was tragically cut short.  His work unfortunately has not yet made the full tilt impact in this country I would hope.  Racism still exists in our country and it's a shame.  Dr King believed in a world where we are all equal and I hope and believe that day will happen in my lifetime.

I would encourage you to go visit his beautiful memorial that is part of our National Parks Service that is located in downtown Washington DC. Check out all the details HERE. Visit his memorial in Washington DC if able but more importantly honor his legacy. Both on MLK Day but all year round by action towards equality and removal of racism both in the country he lived in and across the globe.

Unfortunately when I visited Dr King's Memorial it was dark out and this is the only picture that I have that came out really good, it's obviously a different memorial in DC!

Now in honor of Dr King some of our writers have submitted their favorite words of his!

Mike R's MLK Quote: "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."

Amy K's MLK Quote: "I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."

Jill G's MLK Quote: “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

Statixc's MLK Quote: "A riot is the language of the unheard."  I think the context of the quote helps so I've included a video link to him speaking about it.

America's National Parks are not just about hiking or preserving nature, it's about honoring the legacy of people like Martin Luther King Jr through beautiful and amazing monuments.
MLK's impact has had a profound effect on my life and I'm honored to get to share some of his quotes on here today and to let this day be a subtle reminder that we have much more work to finish what he so bravely took part in.

Do you have a quote from MLK that inspires you?
